[Intro]
I done walked a long road, my friend,
Ain’t no rest, ain’t no peace ’til the very end.
Everywhere I go, somethin’ dies,
Even hellhounds watch me with weary eyes.
[Verse 1]
Left that town in smoke, left the well bone dry,
Ain’t no man can tell ya why.
But when I set foot, the grass don’t grow,
And when I move on, the wind don’t blow.
[Chorus]
I got Cain’s mark, it’s cut too deep,
Ain’t no preacher prayin’ me to sleep.
I keep walkin’, but the road don’t end,
Ain’t no home, ain’t no friend.
[Verse 2]
Dogs don’t bark, even ghosts don’t stay,
Ain’t no bell gonna ring my name.
Ain’t no love, ain’t no light,
Even the moon don’t shine too bright.
[Chorus]
I got Cain’s mark, it’s cut too deep,
Ain’t no preacher prayin’ me to sleep.
I keep walkin’, but the road don’t end,
Ain’t no home, ain’t no friend.
[Bridge]
Lord… Lord, you hear me?
I done walked through fire, I done walked through stone,
Ain’t a soul left to call my own.
I done laid my sins at your door, I done called your name.
Take this mark, Lord…
Take it off my skin, take it from my bones.
Give me one more chance, I swear it right.
I don’t wanna burn, Lord, I don’t wanna burn…
[Final Chorus]
I got Cain’s mark, I got nowhere to be,
Ain’t no Heaven waitin’ on me.
When I lay down, let the dust rise high,
Tell ’em Cain’s son passed on by.
[Outro]
Ain’t no savin’ what’s already lost.
Ain’t no road leadin’ back once you shake that hand.
Some men walk with God.
Some men walk alone.
And some men, well…
Ain’t no man at all.
